Anna-Lucia Rupp is a female musician and composer based in Leipzig. She was born in 1993 in the South of Germany and began to make music very early. After living and working in Cape Town, South Africa as a primary school music teacher and volunteer she moved to Dresden, Germany where she studied Jazz/Rock/Pop voice and instrumental pedagogy at „Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber“ and completed her bachelor’s degree in 2018. She then studied at the „Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium Copenhagen“ in Denmark where she concluded her Master studies of „Music Creation“ in September 2022. Having formed her bands Olicía, Nouk, Sonobe Unit and several other projects along the years she expresses herself as a musician and composer and developed an individual, colorful sound that can be placed between Jazz, Folk, Pop and electronic music. She released 5 albums and 3 EPs with her manifold projects during the last 6 years and is working on further releases to come in 2024. During her musical career she has been collaborating with considerable artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Avishai Cohen, Sophie Hunger and Philipp Poisel. She is finalist of the International Jazz Voice Competition 2018 at UNISA Pretoria, South Africa. Since 2015 she is active as a touring and recording musician, as composer and as vocal teacher and workshop leader for voice and teaches on a private basis.
As collector, traveller, observer and creator she frames situations and captures perspectives. In that sense she doesn’t only express herself musically but creates from an interplay between herself and her surroundings. Analog photography and a slightly synaesthetic perception of the world inspires her in creating a forthcoming solo project where she translates visual textures and colours into sound. The release of her debut solo EP is planned for 2025.
